Learn it, look it up, prove you know it

Most networking material picks one job and does it. A textbook teaches but never checks whether it landed. A cheat sheet assumes you already understand the thing it’s abbreviating. A practice test tells you that you got question 30 wrong and leaves you there.

This is four documents built as one system. Read the booklet, condense with the cheat sheet, sit the test, and when you miss a question it sends you back to the exact chapter that covers it. Then the troubleshooting guide turns all of it into something you can use on a real network on a real Monday morning.

What you get

  • How Networks Talk — a 17-chapter booklet, in plain English, from “what is a network” through OSI, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, spanning tree, ACLs and NAT.
  • Networking Cheat Sheet — 24 sections of dense recall. Ports, DORA, the TCP handshake, administrative distance, IOS commands, WAN encapsulations. The page you keep open in a second tab.
  • Networking Test — 68 questions, four options each, an explanation for every answer, scored by topic so you can see which chapter let you down.
  • Network Troubleshooting Guide — 4,000 words on actually fixing things: a symptom finder, a 7-step plan, every command explained, an error decoder, and quick fixes ordered from gentlest to strongest.

The test is the part nobody else gives you

Every question carries the chapter it came from. Finish the test and you get a breakdown by topic — not one number, but which of the 17 areas you actually understand and which you only think you do. Miss three questions on DNS and the results screen links you straight back to the DNS chapter.

That loop is the difference between reading about networking and knowing it.

Written for people who weren’t born knowing this

No assumed background. Every acronym is expanded the first time it appears, every diagram is labelled, and the glossary is there for the moment you forget what PAT stands for. If you can use a web browser you can start on page one.

It is also honest about what it is. This is fundamentals done properly — not a certification cram, not a lab course. It will make the cert material make sense when you get to it.

Who this is for

  • Help desk and IT support staff who fix network problems by pattern-matching and want to actually understand what they’re doing.
  • Career changers heading toward IT who need the fundamentals before touching Network+ or CCNA material.
  • Office managers and small-business owners who are the de facto IT person and would like to stop guessing.
  • Trainers and instructors — the booklet includes teaching notes, and the test works as a class assessment.

How it works

Everything runs in your browser, on any device. There is nothing to download and nothing to install. After checkout you get a private link to each of the four documents, delivered by email — no account, no password. One payment, permanent access, and when a document is updated you get the new version at no extra cost.

FAQ

How is this different from the IT Networking Reference Guide?
That one is a reference for people who already know the territory — deep, Cisco-flavoured, organised for lookup. This one teaches from zero and checks that it worked. If you’re starting out, start here.

Will it get me through Network+ or CCNA?
On its own, no, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. It covers the fundamentals those exams assume you already have, which is the part most people skip and then struggle with. Use it before the cert material, not instead of it.

Can I take the test more than once?
As many times as you like. Your access doesn’t expire and the test resets every time you open it.

Is it Windows-only?
The command walkthroughs lead with Windows, then give the Mac and Linux equivalents for the same tests. The networking itself is the same everywhere.

Can I use this to train my team?
Not on a single licence — it covers you, or one business. For classroom or team use email support@victorioustechs.com and we’ll sort out a licence that fits.
